Rabbi Nison Alpert was a genuine phenomenon. Born in Europe, he came to the United States as a youngster and became one of the most outstanding American-bred Torah giants. No adversity stood in his way, as he combined an unsurpassed love of learning, brilliant mind, and an almost father-son relationship with his rebbe the incomparable gaon, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein.

As head of the premier kollel of Yeshiva Rabbi Isaac Elchonon and as rabbi of the Agudath Israel of Long Island in Far Rockaway, he touched, inspired, and molded countless lives. Everyone who knew him, or was exposed to him even casually, remembers him as man who clothed his greatness in humility, friendliness, good humor, and genuine love of his fellow Jews. He left reams of notes on the Talmud, Halachah, Torah thought, and the weekly Torah readings.

His son-in-law, Rabbi Dovid Weinberger, the distinguished rabbi of Cong. Shaaray Tefilah in Lawrence, New York, published much of Rabbi Alpert’s Chumash commentary in the 2-volume Hebrew Limudei Nison, an illuminating work that has become a valuable resource for scholar and layman. Now, this work presents a magificent selection of Rabbi Alpert’s work in English for the first time.

The reader of this work will immediately appreciate the author’s stature in scholarship, faith, and love of his fellow Jews. This is a book that will enrich its every reader with not only enlightening insights into the eternal wisdom of the Torah, but also with an awe-inspiring appreciation of the great heights that were scaled by this gifted and dedicated role model of the American Torah world.
