Dear Children, I’m sure you all know about the trial that’s just around the corner. The month of Elul is a time for us to prepare for this special trial, which takes place on Rosh Hashanah. For most of us, the trial continues throughout the Aseres Yemei Teshuvah, and then on Yom Kippur our aveiros are forgiven and the verdict from the trial is sealed. I want to invite you on an imaginary journey. Together, Just Imagine what it might look like if we were asked to come give an accounting of our mitzvos and aveiros before a court on this earth, instead of the Heavenly Court…Imagine facing the prosecutor as he lists our aveiros one by one. Imagine standing before the advocate, as he praises our good deeds and stacks up our mitzvos… It will be a fascinating journey: exciting, sometimes a bit scary (in a good way) and even a little amusing… Above all, this story will help us really understand our annual “day in court” and learn wise tips that will help us win the case and enjoy a great new year!
